Yusef Afzali, secretary of the Arbaeen Headquarters’ Public Contributions, Accommodation and Food Committee, said the headquarters ran 274 Moukebs in Iraq and 98 in Iran this year.
Moukebs are resting places with special facilities and services for Arbaeen pilgrims.
Afzali added that Karbala hosted the largest number of Iranian Moukebs (154), followed by Najaf-Karbala Road (60) and Najaf (40).
The Iranian Moukebs distributed nearly 4 million meals among the pilgrims during the period between September 24 and October 2, according to the official.
He went on to say that the headquarters also ran a 28-bed clinic and three dental units at Hazrat Zeynab (SA) Courtyard of Imam Hussain (AS) holy shrine in Karbala to serve the Arbaeen pilgrims.
Arbaeen, which is one of the largest religious gatherings in the world, comes 40 days after Ashura, the martyrdom anniversary of the third Shia Imam, Imam Hussain (AS).
Each year, a huge crowd of Shias from Iraq and other countries flock to Karbala, where the holy shrine of Imam Hussain (AS) is located, to perform mourning rites.
